PE Sports Premium

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School we believe PE & Sport play an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.

What is Sports Premium?

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is a government-backed funding initiative aimed at supporting primary schools to make sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE, physical activity and sport offered through their core budgets.

The premium is designed to help children get an active start in life, supporting primary schools to improve the quality of their PE, physical activity/literacy, and sport provision so that pupils experience the benefits of regular exercise. This results in pupils becoming healthier both mentally and physically, to improve behaviour and academic achievement.

Sustainability

We are using the Sport Premium to provide professional development training, for our PE Subject Leader, teaching staff, support staff and Welfare staff so that we have the expertise within school to deliver outstanding PE lessons and fun, active sessions throughout the day.  Through the LHSSN (Lancaster and Heysham School Sports Network, we are sharing practice with other local schools and provide competitions for our pupils.  This LHSSN partnership will continue into the future, even if the extra funding from the Sport Premium is no longer available.

What does the Sport Premium mean for St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School?

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School we are using the following key indicators in order to plan how to spend the money in 2021/2022:

  • increasing confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sporting activities
  • increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sporting activities
  • raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement
  • offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils
  • increasing participation in competitive sport

In 2024/25 we were aloocated £17,500. Click the links below to see how our funding was spent.
