At the St Joseph's, Lancaster, we have high aspirations for all of our children in English. We aim for all our pupils to be capable readers, writers, spellers and speakers, who can transfer their English skills to other subjects and who are prepared for the next steps in their learning. We aim for them to be independent, resilient and self-motivated pupils.
We encourage them as readers, who select books for purpose and pleasure. We want them to use their reading skills as an integral part of their learning across the curriculum and we read regularly to children so as to model good practice in reading.
